Tracking the Impacts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup
We are a group of scholars, activists, and critical journalists tracking the impacts of the World Cup and other mega events on cities across the world. Collectively, we have decades of experience researching and working with communities to understand and collaboratively document how mega events dispossess people of their homes, over-police whole communities, exacerbate climate change and environmental harm, gentrify neighbourhoods, and exploit workers.

Based in Canada, we’ve come together to share resources, lessons, and networks of organizers, journalists, and general publics to understand the effects of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in our own backyard. While our main focus is on the FWC26 Canadian host cities of Vancouver and Toronto, we’d love to hear from academics, activists, community groups, and journalists doing critical work across all 3 host countries.
